Legends don’t die

9 years on and it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that Super Turbo would be at VSFighting, but we still have to bring you the good news regardless!

Super Turbo has been the only game to appear at every VSFighting – and in a variety of flavours.  Cast your mind back to the very first VSFighting, all the way back in 2010 where Super Turbo was provided in-house by Electronic Dojo using HD Remix.  The following year saw DNA launch the Grand Master Challenge project and hosted Super Turbo on the Dreamcast.

VSFighting 3 brought arcade hardware to the table (literally) with a supergun and 2 player panel provided by UNW4NT3D.  Every VSFighting since has been played on CPS2 hardware using superguns or Undamned’s UD CPS2 board and this year is no different.

Undamned changed the way Super Turbo is played around the world by creating his own USB to JAMMA converter and cramming it into a CPS2 motherboard and giving it standard video output to allow you to use PS3/PS4/Xbox 360 and Xbox One controls to play CPS2 arcade boards on a standard TV.  He later released the converter as a standalone product, giving many existing superguns UD CPS2 functionality.

This year we are pleased to be working closely with dWo, so you don’t want to miss this!

Saturday is the main event as far as Super Turbo goes.  It’s down to business with a double elimination tournament – a fight for survival against tough competition, with well known players and new players making a strong impression on the scene.  DonYann is visiting from France once again and will be looking to take another UK tournament – but after his impressive runback at Reflect, we definitely won’t be sleeping on him this time.

We have been given a generous time slot of 12:00 to 21:30 for the main tournament, but we are aiming for a finish time of around 18:30.  Depending on just how many entrants we get, this could change, so plan travel accordingly.  We will be keeping an eye on player numbers and provide updates here if necessary.

Sunday is a day for casuals, FT5s, runbacks – whatever you want, but you won’t want to miss the East VS West style team tournament we have planned!  Players can enter for free and they are assigned a team at random, just like we did at the IIX 20th Anniversary.  Team dWo will be headed by the legendary hype man Singho and team GMC will be lead into battle by myself, Zero1.

When dWo are involved, you know it’s going to be hype!

The dWo VS GMC team tournament starts at 12:00 and is expected to be done by 13:00 (depending on entrants).  We ask that players remain present for the duration of the East VS West if possible, so that it’s a quick fire event and hype levels are maintained!  We have planned this so as not to conflict with the finals of the biggest games, so everyone’s a winner.  You can play ST and still watch Tekken 7, SF5 and Mortal Kombat.

The rest of Sunday is up to the players.  We’re happy to organise and record FT5s, money matches or small tournaments for those that came just for ST.

The event is based in central Birmingham and is close to major train stations, hotels and food.  Due to Birmingham having good links to other cities, it means you get a wide range of players.  Looking at the early sign ups list, it seems the landscape has been changing recently and there are new players making it out to events and old players returning, which has been no doubt helped along by the 30th Anniversary Collection.

VSFighting also has a Papa John’s hookup, so you’re never too far away from a decent pizza.

We encourage everyone to sign up as early as possible as this gives us time to research,  seed accurately and plan accordingly.  We appreciate it!

How To Register

It is important to register early!  Registering in advance is the only way to guarantee your place at VSFighting and in our Super Turbo tournament, and we are expecting a busy one.  Registration is being handled by the Electronic Dojo team via the official website, meaning you can register for all your games in one place.

Signing up couldn’t be easier, simply head to the VSFighting website or directly to the signup page, and that’s it, you’re done!

If you are only entering Super Turbo, you can select the casuals pass to save a bit of money compared to the more expensive passes that allow play on other games.  There’s no guarantee it will stay at this price, and beware that the other signup options do go up in price as the event closes in, so register ASAP.
